Metro
The club’s origins date back to 1891 and Melbourne Golf Club which would split to become Royal Melbourne Golf Club and The Metropolitan Golf Club.
The current location was settled upon in 1908 and the course was routed by founder member, J.B MacKenzie. Modifications were recommended by Dr. Alister MacKenzie (no relation to JB) during his famed 1926 Sandbelt visit but the archives are lacking much information.
Metro has an illustrious past and membership – I was joined on course by Michael Clayton who joined Metro in 1975 and went on to have a very successful pro career before becoming a masterful golf architect. 2019 US Mid Am Champ, Lukas Michel also joined us in what proved to be a very memorable round enjoying a truly fantastic test of golf.
